Garnet PAL-Up With Chester Youth Organization

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- The Swarthmore women's tennis and Chester Patient Advice and Liason Service (PALS) held a month-long series of tennis clinics for the Chester youth organization's after-school program during the month of December.

The Chester PAL organization implements locally-based prevention strategies that are designed to prevent, and/or reduce, juvenile crime by providing the youth of Chester with structured recreation, cultural, and educational activities in a supervised safe and gang free environment.

Chester GroupThe clinics were a resounding success as players from the Garnet tennis team taught various skills ranging from serving, forehands, and volleys to 20 children ranging from ages 7-15 years old. All racquets were donated by the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center in Philadelphia and the indoor courts were utilized at Michael Mullan Tennis and Fitness Center located on Swarthmore’s campus.

Chester PALS director Brian Warren shared his enthusiasm for the program and believes that not only did the kids learn a lot about tennis, but also enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about themselves as individuals.
