Jordan joins us from the Senate House Library, the central library of the University of London where she was a Research Librarian for History.\u00a0 A true exemplar of the value of a liberal arts education, Jordan has worked in libraries whose foci are literature and theater (Shakespeare\u2019s Globe), contemporary dance (the Laban Library) and computer science (University of Maryland, College Park).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/academics\/pcs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/03\/Jordan_Landes.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-10506\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-10506\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/academics\/pcs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/03\/Jordan_Landes-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Jordan Landes\" width=\"474\" height=\"316\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/academics\/pcs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/03\/Jordan_Landes-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/academics\/pcs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/03\/Jordan_Landes-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/academics\/pcs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/03\/Jordan_Landes-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/academics\/pcs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/03\/Jordan_Landes.jpg 1056w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jordan is an alumna of Haverford and in addition to her Master of Library Science from the University of Maryland; she has degrees in History from the University of Maryland (M.A.) and from the School of Advanced Study at the University of London (PhD).\u00a0<strong> Jordan has focused her studies in Quaker history.\u00a0 Her doctoral thesis on the role of London in the creation of the trans-Atlantic Quaker community in the late 17<\/strong><strong><sup>th<\/sup><\/strong><strong> and early 18<\/strong><strong><sup>th<\/sup><\/strong><strong> centuries served as the basis for her book, <\/strong><strong><em>London Quakers in the Trans-Atlantic World: The Creation of an Early Modern Community<\/em><\/strong><strong>; it was published by Palgrave in 2015.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Jordan thinks a great deal about community and its value in the context of libraries and scholarship.\u00a0 Jordan is also an innovator.\u00a0 As co-convener of History Day, she developed an event that brings several hundred historians, undergraduates, and post-graduate researchers together with information professionals from over sixty libraries, archives and research organizations.\u00a0 She has also worked with Wikimedia UK to host <em>editithons<\/em> in collaboration with the University of Birmingham over Twitter to address the dearth of information on women\u2019s history.<strong>\u00a0 She recently curated several recent exhibits \u2013 one on dissent in WWI and another on protest movements, entitled \u201cRadical Voices.\u201d\u00a0 She is particularly interested in the way that libraries and archives preserve evidence of peace \u2013 when so much of the historical documents has focused on the opposite.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As both librarian and historian, Jordan has built trans-Atlantic networks like the Quakers she has studied.\u00a0 We are excited to see how she might expand our own networks, not only to England but beyond.<\/p>\n<p>We would like to thank the search committee chaired by Sarah Willie-LeBreton with members, David Harrison, Ellen Ross, Celia Caust-Ellenbogen, Susanna Morikawa, Pat O\u2019Donnell and Peggy Seiden.
