Rebecca,
I liked the perspective of Swarthmore 5,000, 50,000 and 500,000 years ago. Now, it seems almost second nature that humans have successfully taken ‘ownership’ over the earth, or at least the part that people live in. We forget that the earth is much bigger than us, and that eventually, rather soon on the scale of things, we will no longer be here. Yet the earth will remain, and hopefully continue to support new kinds of life.
