Swat Closes Out Regular Season With 7-2 Win Over F&M

LANCASTER, Pa. - Sophomore Zak Kelm, sophomore Max Bressman and junior Mark Wee all finished with victories in singles and doubles play as the Swarthmore College men's tennis team (9-9, 8-1) closed out the regular season with a hard-fought 7-2 victory over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon from Lancaster.

With the win, the Garnet lock up the No. 2 seed in upcoming Centennial Conference playoffs, where they will host the No. 3 Diplomats in a rematch from the College on Saturday.

Kelm was perfect for the Garnet winning at doubles and singles.

Swat opened the match by taking 2-of-3 doubles matches - but none of it was easy. Sophomore Stephen Youngblood and Kelm took care of the F&M pair of Ross Silverberg/Peter Bookman  8-6 from the No. 1 slot, while Wee and Bressman won a tight 9-8 (7-5) battle over James Tunner/Doug Silverstein (F&M). The Diplomats salvaged a point with 9-8 (4-2) win at No. 3 doubles.

Along with wins at No. 4-though-6 singles, Swarthmore won the match with crucial singles wins from Kelm and Wee at No. 2 and 3. Kelm won a 7-5, 7-5 battle over F&M's Silverstein, while Wee prevailed 6-3, 7-6 (5-3) over F&M's Cameron Relic.
