Volleyball Digs for a Cure
For the third consecutive year, the Swarthmore volleyball team will join the other ten schools in the Centennial Conference in a fund-raising effort to fight breast cancer during the 2008 season.
Each of the participating schools designate one home volleyball match in October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, to count each dig registered. Individual sponsors pledge money per dig earned by their team in the match, or can make a flat donation to the cause. The money raised by each team goes directly to Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC). In the last two years, the Centennial volleyball teams have raised over $13,000 in the fight against breast cancer.
Swarthmore has designated its October 11th match with the Dickinson Red Devils for counting digs. As of Sept. 18, the Garnet rank in the top-50 in the nation with 18.2 digs per set (second in the Centennial).
The Garnet volleyball team will also hold a skills clinic on October 12 in Tarble Pavilion in an effort to raise more funds to support the fight of breast cancer. The clinic starts at 10:00 a.m.--click here to download an informational PDF.
