Mullarkey Earns Silver Medal

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- Swarthmore junior Cait Mullarkey picked up her second medal while the Garnet track & field team competed on the final day of the 2008 Centennial Conference Track & Field Championships at the Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium on the campus of Gettysburg College on Sunday afternoon.

In the women’s 800 meter run, Mullarkey (Wilmington, Del. / Ursuline Academy) picked up the silver medal after crossing the finish line in a time of 2:18.60. She earned the bronze in the 3000-meter steeplechase on Saturday afternoon and impressively posted a fifth-place finish in the 5,000-meter event on Sunday.

Lauren DeLuca ’10 (Audubon, Pa. / Kennedy-Kenrick) also ran a in the 800, improving on her qualifying time from yesterday to register her second personal-best in two days. With her fourth-place finish, DeLuca earned points for the Garnet as she posted a 2:21.20 race time.

Sophomore Nyika Corbett (Myrtle Point, Ore. / Myrtle Point) also ran a personal-best, earning the fourth fastest time on the Swarthmore all-time top ten list for the women’s 5,000 meter run with her 18:13.41 race-time.

In the women’s triple jump Nathalie Degaiffier ’10 (Washington, D.C. / Washington International) earned a personal-best leaping an 8.73 meters.

Junior Heather Hightower (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Oakwood Friends) placed 13th while throwing a personal-best of 9.59 meters in the women’s shot put.

The Garnet track & field team will return to Swarthmore College to host the Last Chance meet on Monday, May 12 at 7:00 p.m. at Clothier Field.
