Juniors Receive D3kicks.com Honors
SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Garnet goalkeeper Lauren Walker '09 was named to the D3kicks.com All-American third team while also receiving a Mid-Atlantic first team All-Region nod along with classmate Cait Mullarkey.
Walker (Fallston, Md. / The Hotchkiss School) finished the season ranked second in all of Division III for both goals against average (.27) and save percentage (.915). Her goals against average earned her a Centennial Conference record. In her 19 starts for the season, Walker posted a 14-2-3 record while leading the Centennial in goals-against average, save percentage and shutouts per game (0.53). She received her second All-Centennial selection, a first-team nod—Walker was honorable mention in 2006—after tying the Conference record for solo shutouts (10). Walker was selected to the 2007 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All Mid-Atlantic Region second team. She was named Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 4 after being selected All-Tournament at the 2007 Swat Kick Classic.
This is Mullarkey’s (Wilmington, Del. / Ursuline Academy) second nod from D3kicks.com; in 2006 she earned second team. The junior team captain started all 19 games while leading the Garnet defense that set four Centennial records in the 2007 season (including 13 shutouts) and finished third in Division III with a 0.301 goals-against average. For the third consecutive year, Mullarkey was an All-Centennial first-team selection—she is the first Swarthmore soccer player (only fourth defender in Centennial history) to accomplish the feat—and was named Most Outstanding Player after leading the Garnet to the program’s first Eastern Collegiate Athletics Conference (ECAC) Division III Southern Region Championship. She also received the 2007 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All Mid-Atlantic Region second team and was named to the the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team, ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II third team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and placed on the Centennial Academic Honor Roll for a second straight year.
The Garnet women posted a record of 14-2-3 this season, made a second consecutive appearance in the Centennial Conference playoffs and earned its first-ever national ranking, peaking at #18 in the NSCAA poll.
